What is the difference between Southern Hemisphere and Northern Hemisphere BaZi?
This is one of the most widely debated topics in modern Chinese metaphysics. Traditional BaZi was formulated in the Central Plains of China (Northern Hemisphere), where seasons correspond directly with the solar months (e.g., February represents the beginning of Spring, Wood energy).
For those born in the Southern Hemisphere (like Australia, New Zealand, or South America), the seasons are completely inverted (e.g., February is late Summer, transitioning to Autumn, characterized by Metal and Fire instead of Spring Wood). Some modern practitioners argue that the birth months must be reversed to align with local climatic and seasonal energies.
However, other masters maintain that BaZi represents the Earth's gravitational, magnetic, and astronomical relationship with the sun, which remains consistent globally regardless of hemisphere. In practice, the classic solar calendar approach works exceptionally well, but serious practitioners always cross-reference both systems when analyzing Southern Hemisphere charts.
