What are Luck Pillars (大运) and how often do they change?
While your BaZi chart represents your innate structure (your internal world), your Luck Pillars represent the external environments you travel through over time. They are the dynamic forces that unlock or restrict the potentials hidden inside your natal birth chart.
Each Luck Pillar lasts exactly 10 years, introducing a new Heavenly Stem and Earthly Branch combination into your energy matrix. The age at which you transition into a new Luck Pillar is calculated based on your gender and birth parameters, and varies for every individual (some transition at age 2, others at age 8, etc.).
A change in Luck Pillars often brings a major shift in career focus, relationship dynamics, health status, and life philosophy. If a new 10-year Luck Pillar contains your favorable elements, you will experience a period of smooth progression where opportunities flow easily; if it contains unfavorable elements, it serves as a period of testing and growth.
