The Day Master (also known as the Day Stem or 'Ri Zhu') is the single most important element in your entire BaZi chart. It is the Heavenly Stem of the Day Pillar, representing you—your core self, basic personality, essential traits, strengths, and primary weaknesses.
There are 10 possible Day Masters, corresponding to the polarity (Yin or Yang) of the Five Elements: Jia (Yang Wood), Yi (Yin Wood), Bing (Yang Fire), Ding (Yin Fire), Wu (Yang Earth), Ji (Yin Earth), Geng (Yang Metal), Xin (Yin Metal), Ren (Yang Water), and Gui (Yin Water). Each has its own distinct metaphorical traits (e.g., Jia Wood behaves like a tall, sturdy redwood tree, while Yi Wood behaves like flexible ivy or grass).
All other elements in your birth chart are analyzed in relation to your Day Master.
